The RIMA System: the Success Blueprint, lived every day

Master the daily routine and mental energy is freed. That energy goes into learning, done the right way. Habits make it last for months, and a plan turns it into marks on the day.

Six enemies out, sixteen friends in

Travel, neglected health, stress, distraction, mobile addiction and no self-study wreck a student's year. The Blueprint replaces them with sixteen practices in four excellences.

Routine excellence

  • 1. Food. Sattvic vegetarian meals; no added sugar, maida or deep-fried food.
  • 2. Sleep. Fixed sleep and wake times. Never miss twice.
  • 3. Sport. A sports and fitness period every day, guarded.
  • 4. Yoga. Daily yoga with rhythmic breathing and refining practices.
  • 5. No gadgets. No mobile phones for students.
  • 6. Priority focus. About 10½ hours of learning, class to self-study about 6 to 4.

Academic excellence

  • 7. Multi-level learning. A map of the whole subject first, then one line on everything, then depth.
  • 8. Your own notes. Built by the student, from NCERT, one angle per file.
  • 9. Strategic revision. Testing yourself without looking, on a shortening cycle.
  • 10. True assessment. Every test in full NEET format and full time.
  • 11. Learning after tests. Concepts, logic and method of every question, in three note files.

Personal excellence

  • 12. Habits. Same time, same place; if-then plans; tracked on paper.
  • 13. Attitudes. Shistu, samyama, shraddha: discipline, restraint, commitment.
  • 14. Mindset. Process first, outcome free; absolute commitment; it is in my hands.

Performance excellence

  • 15. Action plan. The year in five phases, with a daily plan.
  • 16. Exam strategy. A first pass through all 180 questions, then the harder ones in order.

The 16-point Success Blueprint is Dr Varun Murthy's design for Dr Varun Exam Excellence. It is rooted in research on the practices; where a point is his own judgement or comes from our heritage, we say so.

The five dimensions of a doctor

Each is worked on every day. Without all five, transformation does not happen.

Physical

Fit and strong enough for long hours and fine control. A surgeon may stand for hours; a physician sees hundreds of people a day.

Intellectual

Sharp, well-read, analytical and logical. This sets how much knowledge and skill a doctor builds.

Emotional

Responsive, not reactive. Calm with an angry relative, steady with praise.

Social

A doctor's life is a public life: connecting, understanding and empathising with people.

Spiritual

Moving from self-interest to service. It powers the other four. Transformative, never a religious requirement; families of every background are welcome.

Four levels of guidance, all on one campus

An instructor gives guidelines, a teacher gives understanding, a coach gives clarity, and a mentor gives inspiration.

The 10-minute coaching meeting

Every student meets every teacher, one to one, every cycle. It keeps the system honest.

  1. Check

    Was the last action done?

  2. Inspect

Notes, with a three-entry accuracy check against NCERT.

  3. Find the rung

The lowest step of the 13-step Competence Ladder not yet mastered, per subject.

  4. One action

Written by the student in their own diary.

  5. Both initial

Teacher and student sign the record.

Each meeting delivers the four things every teacher owes a student: direction, competence, standard and care.

After every test: learn from the paper

Coverage follows the map; depth follows the question.

Attempt sincerely

Every question, in NEET format and full time, like the real exam.

Analyse each question

Concepts, logic and method: why it went right or wrong.

Three note files

Your own findings, the teacher's walk-through, the teacher's tips. Revised by self-testing before the next test.

The rhythm that holds it together

The campus day protects sleep, food, yoga and sport first. It is the same at both campuses.

  • SleepFixed lights-out and wake-up, every day of the week.
  • LearningFive blocks of class and self-study, in a ratio of about 6 to 4.
  • Yoga and sportMorning yoga and breathing; a sports and fitness period daily.
  • MealsSattvic vegetarian food at fixed times.
  • RestProtected rest after lunch, and a quiet hour before bed.
